Chancellor General Peter M. Davenport (Virginia SAR)
The Chancellor General serves as legal advisor to the National Society. He shall serve as a member of the Executive Committee and an Ex-Officio member of the SAR Foundation. The Chancellor General shall render legal opinions on National Society matters upon request by the President General and shall report on legal matters of concern to the President General. He shall make a detailed report on such matters to the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees at the Spring and Fall meetings of the Society as well as the Executive Committee, delegates and members at-large at the Annual Congress. He shall perform such duties as provided elsewhere in the Constitution and Bylaws.
Compatriot Davenport is a member of the George Mason Chapter, Virginia SAR. He has served and Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President. Compatriot Daveport has served the Virginia Society as the Color Guard Commander and a Vice President and is currently serving as President. He has been involved at the National level for a number of years serving on the Bylaws, Legal Advisory and many other National committees. He has attended several National Leadership meetings and annual Congress meetings over the years.
Compatriot Davenport is a graduate of the University of Kentucky Law School in Lexington, Kentucky (JD 1966) and George Washington University in Washington, DC (LLM 1973); private practice in Lexington, Kentucky until 1982; was the Assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Civil and Criminal Divisions until 1994; United States Administrative Law Judge until 2015 (Chief Judge, US Department of Agriculture 2010-2015).
